PITTA –

अग्निरेव शरीरे पित्त अंतर्गतः – CHARAK SAMHITA SUTRA STHAANA  12#11

The AGNI present in the body is included under the category of PITTA.

PITTA IS A GROUP OF ENTITIES, FACTORS AND SUBSTANCES EITHER SEEN OR UNSEEN, THAT ARE INVOLVED IN THE METABOLISM OF THE BODY AT THE ORGAN, TISSUE OR CELLULAR LEVEL & HAVE A SIMILAR FUNCTION OF PRODUCING OR RELEASING ENERGY IN THE BODY AND WHICH PRODUCES THE FOLLOWING QUALITIES AT THE SITE OF ITS FUNCTION.

QUALITIS WHICH PITTA SHOW ——

Sasnehanam, Ushanam,Tteekshanam, Ddravam, Amalam, Saram, Katu— Ch Su 1 # 60

Sasnehanam – where there is PITTA and where the PITTA functions that medium is usually with this character—oily, greasy, and attached to something, fatty, sticky, viscidity, with moisture.

Ushanam – where it functions it produces some energy in the form of the heat, or other forms of energy or sometimes it is said, the heat in the body is PITTA.

Teekshanam – meaning of TEEKSHANA is sharp, hot, severe, rude, fiery, and harsh —- so whatever produces such qualities is a PITTA.

Dravam – whenever it can be seen grossly it will be in liquid state, at metabolic level it acts in a medium of liquid, if the liquid medium is increased its functions are decreased, and when the liquid medium is decreased its actions are increased

Amalam – means sour, acidic, acidity, may be more acidic in chemical nature, or produces acidity in gross form or excess acidity at cellular or tissue level.

Saram – meaning of SARA is going, moving, fluid, purgative, and laxative, — so anything microscopically or microscopicaly showing these properties is a PITTA.

Katu – means acrid—producing heat —causing burning, fiery, hot, stimulating, pungent

The following is just an idea of what factors can be included in different forms of PITTA. It is not a rule to follow this. The same factors can work interchangeably according to what function they are performing–

PAACHAK PITTA—INCLUDING ALL THE ENZYMES & CO- ENZYMES + BILE + HCL + PANCREATIC SECRETIONS- EXTERNAL AS WELL AS INTERNAL INCLUDING INSULIN + ALL THE FACTORS INVOLVED IN THE DIGESTION OF FOOD THROUGHOUT THE GUT + ALL THE FACTORS TAKING PART IN THE METABOLISM OF THE BODY.

SAADHAK PITTA—INCLUDING ADRENALINE LIKE SUBSTANCES THAT TAKE PART IN THE STRESSFULL CONDITIONS. THEY INHIBIT THE FUNCTIONS OF ACETYLCHOLINE THAT IS A KAPHAJ GROUP SUBSTANCE.

RANJAK PITTA—HEAMOPOIETIC PRINCIPLE FORMED AS A REACTION OF INTRINSIC FACTOR SECRETED BY PARIETAL CELLS IN THE STOMACH & EXTRINSIC FACTOR (VIT B 12) OBTAINED FROM FOOD.

ALOCHAK PITTA—RODS & CONES IN THE EYE CONTAIN RHODOPSIN & IODOPSIN WHICH ARE FORMED OF PROTEIN & CO ENZYME. UNDER THE EFFECT OF LIGHT THIS PROTEIN & CO ENZYME ARE SEPARATED AND GENERATE AN ACTION POTENTIAL WHICH IS TRANSMITTED AS A NERVE IMPULSE TO THE BRAIN & ANALYSED IN THE BRAIN. THESE RHODPOSIN & IODPSIN THUS ARE ALOCHAK PITTA IN THE EYE.

BHRAJAK PITTA—INCLUDES HEAT ENERGY IN THE SKIN WHICH IS DEPENDENT ON THE AMOUNT OF MELANIN IN THE SKIN.
